I never had more than 100k in storage and on my charr , i don't count normal materials. Money only interests me when I want a new set of armor , then I try to make some , otherwise I just play the game , I heard that you could make some money doing DoA runs , but since I hate DoA and ursan is boring to play I'll probably never get that rich. Also I have 20 minis (no lich or kuni , the only valuable are the mursaat and raptor) in storage and made 5 sets of 15k armor.

Anet has only finally to make these ridiculous rare minipets alot more common and all those dupers will bite in their asses.
That would be the greatest funny thing I wish me to see for fairness of the game. these pets really finally need to receive some perma ressources, like such very good quests for the Black Moa chick, so that players can actually WORK for these pets, instead of grindign their asses off for years to have maybe somesay enough of these bullshit materials to trade you one of those minis -..-
But Anets was mostly ever in kind of such gameplay design totally retarded yet, I don't await from them to get a brain and to make the game finally more fair for Mini Collectors, because where is the sense in collecting Minis, when the devs will give their players never the chance to complete their collections.
I'm really willign to work for my mini panda, or Mini Oni whatever, but this work should be at least feal at the end, like an achievement, not like a insane braindead huge pile of shit grind that is mostly impossible to fulfill as normal honest player, that doesn't cheat, doesn't abuses exploits and doesn't buys ingame money with real money illegally from Gold Seller Sites or general Ebay >.>
But it seems, Anet will be ever too dumb to understand this catastrophal game design problem.

some people have played since the beginning of GW and some really don't have a life and constantly play GW, so yes you can be extremely rich but don't count that they have a social life

I was just reading posts from people laughing at "power-trading", but this is something that real-life does a lot.
I remember watching a seminar 10 years ago (so it's really not new at all...) on how a ban intern created a model of the transactions where shares are sold on one stock market to sell them immediatly after on a different stock market which hasn't reacted to share's price changes, thus exploiting the delay between stock exchange's reaction to certain news in different part of the world.
It may seem boring, cheating, or not so honorable, but it's part of all economies that are big enough to generate that kind of interest in rare items. The added-value of these re-sellers may not be very big (it starts with luck, then building your own personal circle of buyers/sellers I guess) but it's part of the game, whether we want it or not. It could even be seen as the 11th profession of the game .

It may well be the case, but there are many work-arounds that laws don't take into account (money laundering works the same, it's an arms race). I'm not in favor of this type of parasiting of an economy, merely pointing at the fact that it's not a specific phenomenon so as to explain these insane amount of money. Plus, you have these items whose value suddenly jumped by x100 (such as the mini-pigs before last year's Canthan New Year's Festival or the insanely rare mini polar bear...).
Virtual Worlds bring new tricks, but it's the same old story: greed .

I believe that people and their reasons to do things are more complex that what you just said in 2 sentences . Everyone has an opinion, mainly influenced by their own experience of the game (whether they know someone rich, or who tried to be, or they tried themselves this or that method, or wanted desperately the 1000e wonder of GW...) but I don't believe we can really know what's going on, except in such general terms as "greed", "desire", "need for power", "need to feel superior".

Yea powertrading is one way, but i think they farm for skins more often, people with over a stack of ectos probably farm a lot, but they are a lot poorer because of the SF nerf

Same rule of thumb applies in real life, there will always be someone with more stuff than you.
Unfortunately unlike real life, if you have 4000e, it means that you probably haven't seen the light of day for about 2 yrs, you sit and gawk at the 1000k in storage on all 5 gw accounts you own thinking about how cool you are and how hot your online "girlfriend's" ele looks.

I got a secret for everyone, Woe Speader makes me rich and his friend Scar Eater loves to drop tomes on command.
To put it simply, Tomes have been the EASIEST way to make money for me.
I got about 400k* in 4 days doing some hardcore 10+ Hour farming.
It was like a tomeapaloza XD got over 80 tomes a day and worked my but off.

Lots of ingame money with "maxed" characters (titles, weapons, armors) ? What for? To ebay it ? "Lots of ingame money" will be worthless in GW2. So what's the point ?

Hmm lets see... 4000e would be if farmed, roughly 650 smite farming runs avg of 6-7 ectos per run, and if bought roughly 22 million gold before the price drop.
Now 1 account with no extra char slots can hold a max of 1.8 million gold and a smite run will take on average 20-25 min which would make for just under 280 hrs of farming.
Considering these facts, in order to own 4000e would mean your time invested in gw>>>than time invested in real life.
I love math

He was talking about trading too, not just farming. Powertrading is awesome if you invest a small amount of time into the economy.

That's what I do, and I'm content having around 15k in my storage and zip on all my characters, because I can get max stuff and skills (now with tomes) for almost nothing, and its easy to gain back just with playing PvE.

Still doesn't mean your time in GW is larger than time spend in RL.
One more: Win one of those rare minipet price thingies and you won't be that far off from 4000 ectos. May even have 4000, I don't know what they're going for atm.

very true, you might be one of the 1 in 1 million that get a ghostly hero from the chest or something like that, you still have to find someone that actually has invested the time to afford to buy it from you.
